Why Good Apples?

Where do our products come from?

At Good Apples, we believe in buying local whenever possible. Whether that means working with Pennsylvania farmers or other reputable companies right here in the Strip, we prefer to do business with people whose livelihoods depend on the health of our local economy. In the summer months, we buy about 20% of our produce direct from farms throughout Pennsylvania and eastern Ohio with the rest coming from local wholesalers. When the weather turns cold and local crops are less plentiful, we rely primarily on a short list of local suppliers, many of which specialize in just a handful of products, to provide fruits, vegetables and other natural foods that meet our uncompromising quality standards.

When it comes to produce in particular, the origin of each commodity varies a great deal by season. In order to provide fresh and delicious fruits and vegetables year-round, we work with our supplier partners to procure products from western and southern regions of the U.S. where growing climates are ideal at that particular time. In fact, by mid-winter over 60% of our daily shipments consist of California-grown products. In every case, however, we buy only the highest grade of each commodity, and our suppliers know we will accept nothing less.

Although we carry far fewer imported products than a typical grocery outlet, we do offer many items that are grown outside the U.S. For instance, Costa Rican pineapples, Chilean grapes and stone fruit, apples from New Zealand and Canadian peppers are preferable at certain times of the year. And while we will always choose a domestic product if quality is the same or better, our imports are obtained exclusively from suppliers with FDA-regulated in-house inspection programs to ensure the safety and satisfaction of our customers.

At the end of the day, stocking the refrigerators and pantries of thousands of homes throughout Pennsylvania is a responsibility we take very seriously. As part of this process we recognize that you, our customer, are trusting Good Apples to select products for your family with the same care and eye for quality that you would use. And while this is not always easy, we relish the challenge each and every day.

Should you ever have any questions about the origin of any Good Apples products, please e-mail us or call 1-866-544-FRESH.
