Closely related to the peach, the nectarine is much more than a smooth version of its fuzzy cousin. The semi-tart, fleshy inside is protected by a plum-like skin that makes it an ideal hand fruit for kids. More durable and slower to ripen than peaches, nectarines should be stored at room temperature during and after ripening.
