We're Committed
With local growers' operating costs rising and factory farms continuing to gobble up market share, the small family farms we work with are feeling squeezed like never before. While most of these farms rely on their own CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) programs to sustain their business, the significant upfront cost and limited delivery options of these programs prohibit large numbers of customers from participating.
With these businesses struggling to stay competitive, scores are unable to procure chain store business due to what supermarkets consider to be an unreliable supply of products. When we started our business three years ago and were purchasing produce exclusively from local wholesalers, even these companies offered few local selections for similar reasons, hindering our ability to sell local products on a consistent basis.
So we had a decision to make. Go with the flow and sell few local products, or work directly with as many good farmers as possible and become a reliable source of local summer produce. A small company ourselves, the latter choice seemed a daunting task given the number of growers with which we would need to partner in order to meet demand. But after meeting and getting to know these farmers over the past year-and-a-half, we can tell you without hesitation that we made the right decision.
Good Apples will turn three in July, and what better way to celebrate than to kick off the local produce season by going ALL-IN. So we've compiled what we consider to be the best of the best from several area growers to offer our first Local Farm Box of the season. Very much like what you would get from a CSA, this box includes cluster tomatoes, yellow and green zucchini, romaine and leaf lettuce, cabbage, green onions, radishes and three types of mushrooms—all from local growers—for just $17.99. We are able to offer so many products for less because, when it comes to local produce, delivery costs are significantly reduced and no distributors are involved. Everyone benefits!
And for you organic fanatics, we also have a Local Organic Farm Box that includes certified organic green zucchini, pattypan squash, cabbage, Swiss chard, kale and whole mushrooms for just $19.99. Once again, this price reflects the value of working with local growers to bring you the freshest produce available.
Whether you've been a customer since the beginning or you've only had one order delivered, We would like to thank you for taking part in our program. Your business means more to us than the money you spend—it serves as encouragement to find new ways to serve you as well as our network of local farmers a bit better each and every week.
